Senior Accountant

About our company.

M.M.LaFleur is a female-founded womenswear company based in New York City. We believe the world is a better place when women succeed. Our goal is to take the work out of dressing for work—whether that means heading to the office, networking over brunch, leading PTA meetings, or anything in between. Our thoughtfully designed pieces are practical, comfortable, and beautiful, and we hope that when you wear them, you feel like the most polished and powerful version of yourself.

Who are we?

We're a group of go-getters who are passionate about reimagining the way women shop and dress for work. We get inspiration from our customers, and everything we design has a purpose and a human touch. We think big, but we sweat the details, and we take our work (but never ourselves) seriously. We’re steady but nimble, thanks to a whip-smart, energetic team that’s not afraid to be scrappy. We are perfectionists who sometimes spill on our clothes—we own our mistakes, turn challenges into growth, and evolve as we learn. We embrace ambiguity, celebrate weird ideas, and love a work in progress. We are kind but direct, and we practice Kizukai—a Japanese word that means “empathy in action.” We are incredibly proud of the team we’ve built, and we’re excited to continue evolving as we grow.

About This Role

This is not a traditional accounting role. You won't spend your days processing one type of transaction or owning one piece of the close. You'll have exposure to the entire accounting function and work directly with the Controller to improve processes, strengthen controls, and build a scalable accounting organization at a female-founded womenswear and ecommerce company.

This role is ideal for someone ready to make the leap from Staff Accountant to Senior Accountant. Someone who is naturally curious and asks questions like: Why doesn't payroll tie to the general ledger? Why is this account carrying a balance? Why are we doing this manually? Can this be automated? Is there a better way? If that's how your brain works, you'll thrive here.

You'll own meaningful portions of the accounting function and have the opportunity to make a visible impact on the business.

What You Own

Core Accounting & Close

  • Prepare journal entries and supporting schedules across the accounting function

  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations and investigate discrepancies with curiosity and rigor

  • Participate in the monthly close process, growing into ownership of significant portions over time

  • Support payroll accounting and related reconciliations, including investigating variances to the general ledger

  • Assist with cash management activities and cash-related reporting

Accounts Payable & Vendor Management

  • Manage the accounting inbox and vendor communications, ensuring timely and accurate responses

  • Process vendor invoices and support accounts payable activities end-to-end

Inventory Accounting

  • Assist with inventory accounting and inventory reconciliations in a DTC and ecommerce environment

  • Partner with Operations on inventory-related discrepancies and ensure accurate reflection in the general ledger

Process Improvement & Special Projects

  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, strengthen controls, and improve system integrations — and bring solutions, not just observations

  • Partner with the Controller on special projects, process improvements, and initiatives that support a scalable accounting function

What You Bring

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent

  • 3–5 years of accounting experience with full-cycle exposure

  • Experience participating in month-end close

  • Strong balance sheet reconciliation skills

  • DTC and/or ecommerce experience

  • Experience with inventory accounting

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an ownership mindset

Preferred:

  • NetSuite experience

  • Apparel, retail, consumer products, or inventory-based industry background

  • Experience in a high-growth or lean environment

What You'll Gain

  • Direct exposure to the full accounting cycle at a lean, high-ownership company

  • Mentorship from an experienced Controller with a clear growth path

  • Significant responsibility from day one, with room to expand your scope as the company scales

  • Hands-on experience across systems, process improvement, inventory accounting, and financial reporting

  • A front-row seat to building a scalable accounting function at a modern, mission-driven brand
